Pre-K Class

The Pre-Kindergarten classes at Ventana Ranch Elementary School provides our youngest students with quality early childhood education. We provide ample opportunities to explore, experience and develop confidence, and their ability to learn.

The majority of our day provides opportunities for children to develop competence with materials, language, ideas, and concepts in a number of learning centers. The pre-K years are a time for learning.  With the Opening the World of Learning ™ curriculum (OWL) our Pre-K kiddos will be On The Way To Kindergarten!  Portfolio documentation is collected as a means identifying and meeting the needs of individual students. Observational records are collected and aligned with the New Mexico Early Learning Outcomes and Essential Indicators.

We strive to promote a healthy social and emotional environment in which children develop self-regulation and a strong self-concept by providing many experiences such as adult-student and peer interactions in whole group singing, dancing, sharing and listening. We also provide small group experiences in math, writing, art, reading, dramatic play, blocks and sensory centers.  All parts of the day are considered opportunities for learning.  The teacher uses curriculum content, instructional strategies, and the use of essential questions, to help students connect content to their experiences, which takes them beyond rote learning and leads to thoughtful, reflective learning. 

We recognize families as their child’s primary and most important teachers. For this reason we consider families as a critical part of our program. Families are encouraged to participate in their child’s education by volunteering in the classroom and the Ventana Ranch community, attending planned parent meetings, parent/teacher conferences, as well as field trips.

School begins: 9:50 am

Tardy bell: 9:53 am

Dismissal: 1:50 pm

There is no before school program or breakfast on abbreviated days.
